Booms Cars is a mobile super casual game designed as a mix between Micro Machines and Destruction Derby. It’s an arcade oriented gameplay with weapons, contacts, explosions and an overexcited speaker.
My main challenge was to produce solid but lightweight physical interactions between vehicles and the track. While keeping a solid framerate on low-end devices with 20 players at the same time.
This was achieved by approximating the physics of the car with a rolling sphere, which also provides a nice arcade and sliding driving feeling.
Interactions between cars are reduced to the lightest box collisions possible with a lot of tweaks to get something bumpy and explosive.
